Novak named new president at Dakota Wesleyan Univ.
• MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) -- A native South Dakotan has been named the new president of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, Board of Trustees Chairman Brad Pratt announced Thursday. • Amy Novak will become the next president of the university on June 1. She succeeds Robert Duffett, who is leaving to become president of Eastern University in Pennsylvania. • Pratt said Novak brings a well-developed and deep passion for the university's vision and mission to the position. • Novak attended Mitchell High School, holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She is currently provost and executive vice president at DWU. She has held several positions at the university since 2003. • Novak says she is humbled to have the opportunity to shape Dakota Wesleyan's future. • "Our institutional foundation is solid...My goal for Dakota Wesleyan University is to boldly position ourselves for growth, financial stability and regional recognition as a leader in Christian higher education," Novak said. •
SD Class A prep basketball games to use shot clock
• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The use of a shot clock is being expanded in South Dakota high school basketball. • The state High School Activities Association Board of Directors this week approved the use of a 35-second shot clock for Class A boys and girls basketball, starting in 2014-15. Athletic directors at Class A schools earlier had voted in favor of the idea. • A shot clock has been used in Class AA games in South Dakota since the 2008-09 season. • The state activities board rejected a measure calling for a shot clock in Class B games.
