Another snowstorm bears down on South Dakota

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Much of South Dakota could be in for yet another spring snowstorm.
• The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm warning for southwestern South Dakota for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night. The bad weather is expected to extend into the central and northeastern parts of the state.
• Forecasters say the storm could dump up to 15 inches of snow in the southwest, with lesser but still significant amounts in the other areas.
• A storm that hit the state last week dropped as much as 2 ½ feet of snow on some areas and brought freezing rain to the east, coating trees and power lines and knocking out power to nearly 100,000 people.

Inmate charged with killing guard back in court

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A man sentenced to death for killing a prison guard is back in court Tuesday.
• Rodney Berget was sentenced to death last year for killing prison guard Ronald "RJ" Johnson in April 2011. But the state Supreme Court overturned Berget's death sentence earlier this year, ruling that the circuit judge improperly considered a statement Berget made to a psychiatrist.
• Berget now wants a completely new hearing in front of a jury. According to court documents, Berget's 31-year-old son only found out who his real father is as an adult, and the death-row inmate has now established a "meaningful relationship" with his son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Berget wants to be present the relationship as evidence against execution.

Snow and freezing rain affect SD ranchers, farmers

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Snow and freezing rain have brought badly needed moisture to parts of South Dakota, but last week's storm delayed field work and made calving conditions difficult.
• The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop report that there was hardly any time suitable for fieldwork in the past week. Activities included caring for livestock and preparing for spring planting.
