Snow storm in Dakotas sets several records

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Everyone from students to lawmakers are getting the day off after a record-breaking snow storm in North Dakota over the weekend.
National Weather Service reports show as much as a foot and a half of snow fell in western and central North Dakota and northern South Dakota on Sunday.
• The 17.3 inches of snow that fell in Bismarck set several records, including the most snow on any day of any year in the city. Fargo set a city record for the date with 6.3 inches. In South Dakota, Aberdeen set a city record for the date with 8 inches.
• Many schools in North Dakota and northern South Dakota are closed or starting late, with roads closed or impassable. The North Dakota Legislature has canceled its Monday session.

I-29 reopens in eastern ND; I-94 remains closed

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Transportation officials have reopened Interstate 29 between Fargo and Grand Forks in eastern North Dakota but are still advising no travel in the region because of a record-setting snow storm.
• The Sunday storm dropped as much as a foot and a half of snow in western and central North Dakota, and lesser amounts in the east. Interstate 94 remains closed from the Minnesota border to the Montana border.
• U.S. Highway 83 is closed between Bismarck and Underwood.
• No travel is advised in most of the state.

Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition gets home

• YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- The Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition finally has a headquarters.
• The Yankton Press and Dakotan reports (http://bit.ly/10Mo49t) that the organization is renting space in the Corps of Discovery Welcome Center in Crofton, Neb., for its first home during its 12 years of existence.
• Executive Director Sandy Stockholm says she sees the potential for much greater visibility for the organization, which works to raise awareness about the sediment clogging the Missouri River's arteries.
