Officials cancel SD meeting on Missouri River

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has canceled a South Dakota meeting on the agency's plans for managing the Missouri River reservoirs this spring.
• The meeting was set to be held in Pierre on Wednesday, but it was canceled because of the spring snowstorm that hit the area.
• Jody Farhat, chief of the corps' Water Management Division for the Northwest Division, says South Dakotans interested in the Missouri River's management should send comments to the corps by mail or email.
• The corps is releasing a minimal amount of water into the lower Missouri River because of drought conditions. The agency plans to maintain steady to rising water levels in the Fort Peck, Sakakawea and Oahe lakes to support fish reproduction this spring.

Kelly: Arming students won't stop gun violence

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Astronaut Mark Kelly says he doesn't think allowing university students to be armed will cut down on gun violence.
• Kelly spoke to members of the media ahead of an appearance Wednesday evening at the University of South Dakota. His speech will focus on his time in the Navy, being an astronaut, his wife Gabrielle Gifford's brain injury and his advocacy for responsible gun ownership.
• Kelly says because he is a parent with kids in school, he doesn't think arming students is a good idea.
• But he adds that school security is a big issue and something that needs to be addressed.

Judge: Iowa State U. must shield 'pink slime' data

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- A judge has blocked Iowa State University from releasing documents about food safety research conducted for the beef-processing company that makes the product dubbed "pink slime" by critics.
