Fund set up for NSU athletes displaced by fire

• ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- The Northern State University Foundation has set up a donation fund to help student-athletes displaced by a house fire in Aberdeen.
• Five people safely escaped the blaze early Saturday. KELO-TV reports that former and current NSU football players lived in the home.
• The university says in a statement that money collected through the fund will help replace some of the residents' belongings.
• Authorities have charged a 21-year-old man with intentionally starting the fire following a fight involving his roommate.

I-29 reopened near Tea; stretch of I-90 closed

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Interstate 29 south of Sioux Falls is open again to traffic, after utility crews removed a power line downed by the powerful ice and snow storm hitting the state.
• Traffic had been rerouted around a 2-mile stretch of I-29 near Tea for much of Wednesday because of the downed line.
• Interstate 90 remains closed between Chamberlain and Mitchell.
• No travel is advised in much of eastern South Dakota.

Thousands remain without power in eastern SD

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Thousands of people remain without electricity in eastern South Dakota as a spring storm pounding the state enters its third day.
• Xcel Energy was working overnight to restore service to about 21,500 customers, after earlier getting the lights back on for about 44,000 people. Nearly 3,000 people served by rural electric cooperatives also remain in the dark.
• The South Dakota Rural Electric Association says more than 250 electrical poles have been downed by the ice and snow storm.
• The National Weather Service says snowfall totals have reached as high as 30 inches, in Deadwood. Rapid City has nearly that much and has set snowfall records two straight days.
• The bad weather is forecast to extend into southeastern North Dakota, with up to 5 inches of snow expected by Thursday night.
