• In South Dakota, he's accused of escaping from a jail in Huron by accosting a guard with a makeshift weapon. He was captured later the same day in Sioux Falls after allegedly stealing a pickup truck and driving there.

SD school warns against texting while driving

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls is holding an event to warn people of the dangers of texting while driving.
• Philip Sorensen, a former student at the school, was killed last year in an accident caused by another driver who was texting at the time of the crash. Sorensen's parents, who have set up a scholarship endowment in their son's honor, are scheduled to attend the event.
• The school's Student Government Association is holding the event at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the campus in Sioux Falls. People who attend will be able to use a simulator that demonstrates the consequences of driving while distracted or impaired.

Multimedia performance honors Langston Hughes

• VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -- The University of South Dakota is hosting a multimedia concert performance of Langston Hughes' kaleidoscopic jazz.
• "Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods for Jazz" is slated to begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Farber Hall.
• The multimedia concert is Hughes' homage in verse and music to the struggle for artistic and social freedom at home and abroad at the beginning of the 1960s.
• A 12-part epic poem, "Ask Your Mama," is scored with musical cues played by the Ron McCurdy Quartet drawn from blues and Dixieland, gospel songs, boogie woogie, bebop, progressive jazz, Latin "cha cha," Afro-Cuban mambo music, German lieder, Jewish liturgy, West Indian calypso and African drumming.
• The multimedia concert is free and open to the public.

JazzFest Main Stage lineup unveiled

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Organizers of JazzFest have unveiled the lineup for the Main Stage.
• The three-day festival will feature the Hegg Brothers Band, the Kris Lager Band, Trampled Under Foot, Mingo Fishtrap, Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band and others.
