8 on Pine Ridge indicted on federal drug charges

• PINE RIDGE, S.D. (AP) -- Eight people on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southern South Dakota have been indicted on federal drug charges.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says the suspects allegedly conspired for 20 years to distribute cocaine and marijuana, beginning in 1993.
• The suspects range in age from 26 to 48. They have pleaded not guilty. Two suspects have been released on bond while the others remain in custody pending trial.
• A trial date hasn't been set. Each suspect faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

Strong snow storm bears down on South Dakota

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A storm with the potential to drop 20 inches of snow bore down on South Dakota Tuesday, a day after heavy snow created bad travel conditions in part of North Dakota.
• The National Weather Service issued various storm advisories, watches and warnings for South Dakota. Forecasters said the storm moving across the Rocky Mountains and Greats Plains packed heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain and strong winds.
• The Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a statement urging travelers to be cautious. South Dakota Transportation official Greg Fuller said spring storms aren't unusual, but they can be dangerous.
• Numerous accidents were reported Monday in southwest North Dakota, where up to a foot of snow was reported. An oil tanker crashed near South Heart and spilled what authorities called a minimal amount of oil.

Trial set for South Dakota jail escape suspect

• HURON, S.D. (AP) -- Trial has been scheduled for a Kansas man accused of breaking out of jail in South Dakota's Beadle County in January.
• Forty-five-year-old Charles Beeney has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, theft and escape. KOKK radio reports that his trial is set to begin May 28.
• Beeney has a criminal history in Kansas and North Dakota, including an escape from a county jail in North Dakota in 2005 and an attempted escape from the State
