rangements can be made for them.  A special thanks is in order to Patti Woods for her efforts in organizing the mock crash.
• The Groton Area Jr./Sr. Prom is scheduled for April 20th with the grand march at 8:00 PM.  In recent history, our state has witnessed far too many alcohol-related deaths of our young people during this time of year (namely, proms and graduation celebrations).  I ask you to have an open conversation with your children about this very serious issue to prevent a tragedy in our own community.  Free resources about this topic are available in the high school office.

• Joe Schwan

• Digital Media - Ms. Coyne
There are currently six students enrolled in the digital media class.  In this class we have been working with various web 2.0 tools, which are all free online software applications.  Students have started to embrace Cloud based software such as Google docs, and Spicynodes.  They are just beginning to learn about the art of video creation and editing through the use of MovieMaker and Photostory.  We will also be incorporating Adobe Premier.

• Computer Literacy - Ms. Coyne
The sophomores are busy spending their time working through the Microsoft Office Suite.  They are learned and applied techniques in Word and Excel.  Currently they are finishing Excel and are looking forward to PowerPoint and Access. Each skill the students have learned has also been demonstrated in a real world work environment.  The class is completely paperless and students are put under time deadlines to replicate the real world today.

• 6th Grade Keyboarding - Ms. Coyne
Students are on a three week rotation along with other exploratory classes.  Students in the sixth grade are expected to be able to type at 20 words per minute at 96% accuracy.  Students have conquered the letter keys typing far above the set goal.  Now in our last 3 week sessions students will be focusing number keys, 10-key, and symbols.  Using an additional Cloud based software students are focusing on not only fingerings but also accuracy.  With accuracy comes speed.  I have been very impressed with the student growth from the beginning of the year.
