Election set for next Tuesday

City voters will have the opportunity to go to the polls on Tuesday, April 9, to elect a mayor and a councilman in Ward 2.
• A questionnaire was given to the two mayor candidates and also to the candidates running in Ward 2. Everyone except Eddy Opp returned their questionnaires. Their answers begin on page 2 of the Inde

• Voter city-wide will vote for a mayor. The incumbent is Roy Olson and the challenger is Kevin Nehls.
• In the south part of Groton, voters in Ward 2 will be voting for a council for that district. Eddy Opp is the incumbent and the challenger is Ron Belden.
• The next city council will have some new faces on it. In Ward 3, incumbent Brett Anderson did not take out a petition and that opened the door for Michelle Muilenberg to claim that seat. In Ward 1, incumbent Doug Hamilton did not take out a petition and Mary Fliehs will be the new representative in Ward 1.

Kevin Nehls

Occupation: Heating and cooling technician for Johnson Controls. I have been employed by them for 10 years.

• What are the biggest challenges facing the City of Groton?
• Roy Olson: The biggest challenge facing Groton is to keep the taxes and utilities from increasing while keeping up with the needs of the community.
Kevin Nehls: The biggest challenge facing the city is budgeting our finances. We need to stop increasing taxes and help make it affordable to raise a family. We
