SD lawmakers consider livestock inspection fees

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- A legislative panel is reviewing the state Brand Board's decision to increase the fee for livestock inspections designed to prevent the theft of cattle, horses and mules in western South Dakota.
• The board decided last month to boost the inspection fee from 90 cents a head to $1. The increase is intended to keep the brand inspection program in the black for a few more years.
• But the Legislature's Rules Review Committee must also approve the fee increase before it can take effect. The legislative panel plans to review the fee increase Tuesday.
• Brand inspections are required when cattle, horses or mules are sold, slaughtered or moved out of the inspection area west of the Missouri River.

Crazy Horse Memorial to turn blue for autism

• CUSTER, S.D. (AP) -- The Crazy Horse Memorial is turning blue on Tuesday to shine the light on autism.
• The large sculpture dedicated to honoring and preserving Native American culture is offering free admission to Tuesday night's special lighting to raise awareness about autism. Donations of food and money will be accepted for a local food drive.
• Tuesday is United Nation's World Autism Awareness Day. The special lighting will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
• Officials at Crazy Horse decided to raise awareness at the urging of a Lakota mother who has two twins with autism.

Man pleads not guilty to kidnapping, rape charges

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A 21-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and raping a woman against her will.
• Camarcus Houston was arrested in early March after he allegedly raped and held the 34-year-old woman against her will. Prosecutors say Houston had just arrived from his native Louisiana to meet the woman.
