USDA releases prospective spring planting for SD
• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Producers in South Dakota intend to plant 250,000 less acres of corn in 2013.
• That's according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's prospective planting guidelines released Tuesday.
• The intentions are based on a March 1 survey of producers.
• Corn acres planted in South Dakota for 2013 are expected to total 5.9 million acres, down 4 percent from last year's record 6.15 million acres planted.
• Soybean acres planted are expected to total 4.6 million acres. That's down 3 percent from last year's record 4.75 million acres planted.
• Winter wheat acres seeded last fall totaled 1.25 million acres, which is down 5 percent from a year earlier.
• Hay acreage harvested is estimated at 3.1 million acres, which is unchanged from last year.


Meth bust is biggest in Sioux Falls history

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities in Sioux Falls say a bust netted nearly 9 pounds of methamphetamine and more than $94,000 in cash.
• Police Chief Doug Barthel says it's the largest meth seizure in the city's history. Authorities were tipped off by employees at a hotel where a woman had apparently forgotten about a large amount of cash that had been left under a mattress in one of the rooms.
• About $87,000 was found in the room. The rest was found during searches of the woman's vehicle and home.
• The 42-year-old woman was arrested, along with two Sioux Falls men, ages 19 and 42.
