Pit bull killed after biting Sioux Falls officer

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls police officer who was bitten by a pit bull shot the dog, and it was later euthanized by an emergency veterinarian.
• Authorities say the pit bull was on a leash Tuesday but the female holding it was unable to control the dog. The officer went to the aid of a boy who was being chased and was bitten on the hand while trying to get the dog in the back of his patrol car.
• The female said the dog also had bitten another person earlier, though authorities were not able to find the person.
• The officer was not seriously injured. No citations were expected because the dog was on a leash.
