Natural issues causes problems with water flow

• Beaver dams, silt and other natural debris are some of the causes for the water flow problems along Mud Creek. These issues were some of the discussion at the annual meeting of the Mud Creek Watershed District meeting on Tuesday.
• The board is currently conducting a survey of the creek, from where it crosses Highway 37 all the way to the James River. Once this survey is completed, the board will have a better idea of what needs to be done to help alleviate the water problems experienced the last couple of years. The survey is being conducted by Helms Associates.
• As this was the first annual meeting following the formation of the tax district, all the managers that serve on the board needed to fill out petitions and be re-elected back to the board. Only four of the five managers turned in petitions and were continue to serve on the board. They are Mark Thompson, 1 year term; Tim Fliehs and TJ Harder, 2 year terms; and Roger Rix, 3 year term. Marc Sippel did not return his petition and the board appointed Terry Cutler to fill his position for 1 year.

The recycling trailer is in Groton. It is located at the city shop at 10 East Railroad Ave. Don't forget, there is also a dumpster at the city shop for aluminum cans with the proceeds going to the pool.
