and a strong focus on preparing graduates to transfer to four-year universities. A third of the students are Hispanic, unlike the more diverse demographics of many community colleges.
• About 64 percent of students who are the first in their families to go to college transfer or graduate within three years, compared to the national average of 40 percent. Nearly half of the Hispanic students graduate or transfer within three years, compared with 35 percent nationally.
• The college is known for the wraparound services it provides to help students overcome obstacles to graduation -- from financial to academic.
• "We have this common goal of simply wanting to see our students achieve their dreams," said college President Lori Gaskin.

Augustana women make NCAA Div II Elite Eight

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- The Augustana College women's basketball team has earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
• The Vikings beat Emporia State 75-74 on Monday to win the Central Region championship and advance to the program's first Elite Eight.
• Augustana travels to San Antonio to face Clayton State in next Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Funds set up to help SD drowning victims' families

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Funds have been set up at Wells Fargo bank branches to help the families of two people who drowned in the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls late last week.
• Twenty-eight-year-old Lyle Eagle Tail, of Sioux Falls, and 16-year-old Madison Wallace, of Vermillion, died trying to rescue Wallace's 6-year-old brother Garrett, who had fallen into the water in Falls Park but eventually got out.
• KMEG-TV reports (http://bit.ly/137YznD) that a memorial service for Madison Wallace was scheduled in Vermillion on Tuesday night. The Argus Leader newspaper reports that a service for Eagle Tail likely will be later in the week.

Driver crashes into house garage in Sioux Falls

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Sioux Falls police have arrested a male driver who allegedly led officers on a chase before crashing into vehicles and a garage at a private residence.
