The Life of Fern Volk

• Fern A. Volk, 82, of Rapid City died on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
• Fern was born October 26, 1930 in Morrisville, IL to Grover and Alma (Brandsrud) Dawson. She married Robert Volk on August 16, 1949 in Brookings, SD. Fern was a country school teacher in Astoria, Brookings, Watertown and Webster. She was also a gift buyer for her Husband's Drug Stores and a nursing home Administrative Assistant. Fern retired in 1994 when they moved to Rapid City. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was always there for her family.
• Fern was a member of Beta Sigma Phi; President of P.T.O. in Groton, SD and an Elks Does member.

• Ferns family and church were the most important part of her life. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge and teaching catechism.
• She is survived by her husband Robert Volk of Rapid City; three daughters, Roxanne (Ronnie) William of Rapid City, Michele (Joe) Wright of Mesquite, NV, and Kimberly (David) Schweitzer of Rapid City; three grandchildren, Kyra (Jason) Wright-Tijsseling of Seattle, WA, Kirsten (Jamie) William-Kennedy of Rapid City and Toby Wright of Santa Clara, UT.
• She was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Neil Volk; her parents and her sister Jean Peterson.
• A memorial visitation will be from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with a Christian Wake Service at 7pm.
• Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Thursday at the Cathedral of Perpetual Help in the Ladies Chapel with Monsignor William O'Connell and Father Michel Mulloy as Celebrants. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
• A memorial has been established to St. Martin's Monastery.
