1968: During a severe weather event, hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter fell 2 miles south of Brookings. In addition, hail 1.00 inch in diameter fell 3 miles northeast of Sioux Falls.

1948: Homes were leveled by an Illinois tornado at Fosterburg killing 9, at Bunker Hill killing 19, and at Gillespie killing 5. The twister occurred at 6:30 in the morning.

1986: The 153-mph wind gust that was recorded in Scotland's Cairngorm Mountains is the highest ever recorded in the United Kingdom.

2003: A two-day snowstorm dumped seven feet of snow on parts of Colorado and Wyoming. The heavy snow ripped the cloth roof at Denver International Airport. Meanwhile, small tornadoes were reported in Tennessee and Alabama.
