Late-winter storm affecting travel in Dakotas

• FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A late-winter storm is causing travel problems throughout much of North Dakota and eastern South Dakota.
• Motorists in many areas are being advised not to travel or to use extreme caution when venturing out because of snow and blowing snow. Many schools are starting late or calling off classes for the day.
• The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for southeastern North Dakota and for northeastern and east central South Dakota. Storm warnings and advisories are posted in other areas.
• Parts of eastern North Dakota could see more than half a foot of snow, and forecasters say the wind in northeastern South Dakota could gust to 60 mph.

Jacks women to learn NCAA tournament opponent

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Summit League women's basketball champion South Dakota State learns Monday who it will be facing in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
• The brackets will be announced at 6 p.m. Central during a Selection Monday special airing on ESPN. It'll be the Jackrabbits' fifth straight trip to the dance.
• Last Tuesday, Ashley Eide scored seven of her 10 points in the final 5 1/2 minutes and the Jackrabbits beat South Dakota 56-53 to capture the conference title.

SD holds 25th annual environmental conference

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- South Dakota's 25th annual conference on the environment and ground water quality will be held Wednesday in Fort Pierre.
• The conference will include exhibits and technical presentations covering ground water, geology, mining and mineral resources.
• The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources is hosting the conference. State Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Steve Pirner says people attending the conference can learn about issues such as supplying water to oil fields and a proposed new gold mining project in the Black Hills.
