ND man pleads guilty for his role in gang fight

• BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- A North Dakota man has pleaded guilty for his role in a gang fight on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
• Thirty-two-year-old Joey White Eagle, of Fort Totten, is charged with assault for the April 2010 melee.
• Federal court documents show that White Eagle used a metal bar or bat during the fight, which took place on the South Dakota side of the reservation.
• Sentencing is scheduled for June 3 in Aberdeen, S.D.

SD Agriculture Dept. helps beginning farmers

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Agriculture Department says it can help beginning farmers buy land at lower interest rates through a bond program.
• The Beginning Farmer Bond program works through a local bank to finance a land purchase. The bond program allows a lender to get tax-exempt interest for a loan or contract sale, and that lowers the interest rate paid by a beginning farmer.
• To take part in the program, a beginning farmer must be a South Dakota resident at least 18 years old and have a net worth of less than $400,000. The maximum amount of a beginning farmer bond is $501,100 for calendar year 2013.
• The South Dakota Agriculture Department administers the program through the Value-Added Finance Authority board, which reviews applications and issues bonds for approved projects.

Jackrabbits to learn NCAA tournament opponent

• BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Summit League men's basketball champion South Dakota State learns Sunday who it will be facing in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
• The brackets will be announced at 5 p.m. Central during a Selection Sunday special airing on CBS.
• The Jackrabbits beat North Dakota State 73-67 last week to capture the conference title and an automatic bid to the dance. Summit League player of the year Nate Wolters won the conference tournament MVP award after scoring 27 points in the finals.
• The Jackrabbits' sole NCAA appearance came last year, when they earned a trip
