Instrumental Music-Deb Jensen
• 5th Grade Band-The fifth grade students are beginning to work on note names, counting and other musical concepts.  All 5th grade students will be involved in this process with a display of instruments to be held on March 7 in the elementary music room for those wanting to start band. 
• 6th Grade Band-We have been busy progressing in our method books.  The students are also learning their chromatic scales.  Our goal is to have each student be able to play their scale both up and down memorized by the end of the school year.
• Each student will be given a solo soon.  They will be attending the music contest in Webster on Saturday, May 4.  This is a great experience for the students and a fun musical day for them.
• Their next public performance will be the Spring Concert on May 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym.
• Jr. High Band- This band has been busy preparing pep band selections as well as sight reading new material each day.  We are in the process of selecting solos for their contest which will be held in Webster on May 4.  Each student will perform a solo as well as a band performance before 3 judges.  This is an amazing group of musicians that continue to improve daily.
•  Lexie Gustafson was selected to participate in the Middle School All-State Band in Pierre on March 1-2.  Congratulations to Lexie for being selected to represent Groton in this prestigious group.
•  Our Spring concert is scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym.
• High School Band- We were fortunate to have 5 individuals selected for the 2013 All-State Band.  Representing Groton will be Alec Oleson on clarinet, Dakota Gonzales on clarinet, Rachel Blackmun on bass clarinet, Kelsey Wieseler on clarinet and Ashley Larson on bass clarient.  Kelsey and Ashley will be recognized at the concert for being in the band all four years.  These students will be traveling to Rapid City on March 21-24.
•  The high school band and choir will be participating in the large group music contest at NSU on Wednesday, March 27.  The public is welcome to attend.

• January and February have been a very busy months in the GO.  During this time, I have talked to numerous students about careers, tests, and scholarships.   The juniors recently researched careers, budgets and the ACT.  The sophomores
