Today in Weather History

2000: A grass fire of unknown origin was exacerbated by dry conditions and strong winds, burning 1500 acres of grassland northwest and north of Brandon in Minnehaha County. Several homes were threatened by the fire but no homes were damaged; although farmland and some equipment burned. In a separate event the same day, a controlled burn went out of control, exacerbated by the conditions and strong winds. The fire caused one fatality and one injury. Damage was confined to grassland.

1902: In the eight days ending today, Kukaiau Hamakua, HI received 82 inches of rain.

1916: Over five days, Morden, Manitoba received 48 inches of snow.

1977: The highest recorded wind gust in the United Kingdom was 144 mph at the Cairngorm Weather Station in Scotland.

The recycling trailer is in Groton. It is located at the city shop at 10 East Railroad Ave. Don't forget, there is also a dumpster at the city shop for aluminum cans with the proceeds going to the pool.
