Groton's boys end season in district title game

• Groton's boys basketball season came to an end Thursday night. Roncalli defeated the Tigers, 60-36, in the District 2a championship game.
• Roncalli jumped out to a 22-7 first quarter lead. Groton outscored Roncalli, 14-12, in the second quarter, but the Cavaliers took control in the second half, 26-15.
• Mason Madsen led the Tigers with 14 points followed by Kasey Kurtz with eight, Wyatt Lone five, Reilly Ell four, Luke Sternhagen and Matt Knecht each had two and Spencer Knecht added one point.
• Groton made 30 percent of its field goals while Roncalli made 39 percent. Roncalli made nine three-pointers and Groton made just two, both by Kurtz. Roncalli had more rebounds, 39-31 with Reilly Ell and Madsen each having nine. Groton had 14 turnovers, 11 of which were steals while Roncalli had 11 turnovers, eight of which were steals. Reillly Ell, Madsen and Jackson Doeden each had a block.
• Groton made 10 o f17 free throws off or Roncalli's 14 team fouls while the Cavaliers made nine of 16 off of Groton's 16 team fouls.
