• East River is a wholesale electric power supply cooperative serving eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. In 2009, the co-op created South Dakota Wind Partners, a model for community-based, locally owned wind development that relied on residents rather than large equity investors.
• General Manager Jeff Nelson says the co-op and its members are committed to increasing local value.

Pine beetle spraying workshops planned in SD

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Forest Service are hosting three pine beetle spraying workshops in the Black Hills over the next few weeks.
• The workshops will focus on the benefits and methods of treating trees to protect them from mountain pine beetles. Attendees will learn about spraying techniques and chemicals used.
• The first workshop is Friday at Hudson Hall in Spearfish from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
• The second workshop is Saturday at the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department's Outdoor Campus West in Rapid City from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
• The Crazy Horse Memorial near Custer will be the site of the third workshop on March 9 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
• All landowners are welcome to attend.
