Boys win district opener

• Four players hit double figures with Reilly Ell having a double-double in Groton's 67-52 win over Britton-Hecla in the first round district game.
• Ell had 12 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and three assists. The leading scorer was his younger brother, Kyler, with 19 points and one rebound. Wyatt Lone had 17 points, five rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. Mason Madsen had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
• Others adding to the tally were Luke Sternhagen with four points, Parker Rossow with three and Kasey Kurtz two.
• Dallas Goedert led the Braves with 18 points.
• Groton made 63 percent of its field goals while the Braves made 39 percent. Groton made 11 of 21 free throws for 52 percent off of Britton's 21 team fouls. Britton-Hecla made 10 of 18 free throws off of Groton's 18 team fouls. Groton had 17 turnovers with eight of them being steals and Britton-Hecla had 13 turnovers with 12 being steals. Sternhagen had the most for Groton with four.
• Groton had the edge in rebounds, 26-24.
• Groton will play Roncalli on Thursday with a 7 p.m. at Roncalli.

The recycling trailer is in Groton. It is located at the city shop at 10 East Railroad Ave. Don't forget, there is also a dumpster at the city shop for aluminum cans with the proceeds going to the pool.
