Visitors to SD national parks spent $165 million

• MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, S.D. (AP) -- A report says the 3.8 million visitors to national parks in South Dakota spent $165 million in communities near those parks in 2011.
• The National Park Service report says spending by those visitors supported 2,651 jobs across South Dakota.
• Mount Rushmore National Memorial Superintendent Cheryl Schreier says national parks in South Dakota attract visitors from across the nation and around the world. She says those visitors then spend time and money enjoying services provided by communities near the parks.
• The national parks in South Dakota are Badlands National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, Missouri National Recreation River, Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Wind Cave National Park.

Man arrested on drug charges after apartment fire

• TEA, S.D. (AP) -- A man has been arrested on drug charges following an apartment fire in Tea.
• Thirty-two-year-old Jesse Rains was taken into custody following the early Tuesday morning blaze in the second floor of a strip mall.
• Rains is charged in Lincoln County with four counts, including manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance.
• Authorities tell the Sioux Falls Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/WgmBdl) that chemicals in the apartment were similar to those used to make methamphetamine. Lab components were also seized from the apartment.
• Rains was released on a promise to appear in court. The next hearing is scheduled April 10.

Services planned for Wounded Knee anniversary

• WOUNDED KNEE, S.D. (AP) -- Hundreds of people from around the world are expected to descend on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation on Thursday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the start of 71-day occupation in the tiny village of Wounded Knee.
