Mayor, Ward 2 elections in Groton

• There will be two positions that Groton voters will be deciding in April.
• Kevin Nehls and incumbent Roy Olson will be running for the three-year mayor's position. In Ward 2, Ron Belden and incumbent Eddy Opp will be contending for that two-year council position.
• In Ward 1, Michelle Muilenberg will be the new councilman as incumbent Brett Anderson did not take out a petition.
• In Ward 3, Mary Fliehs will be the new councilman as incumbent Doug Hamilton did not take out a petition. Muilenberg and Fliehs will join Clare Brotherton as half the council will be made up of women in this coming cycle.
• There will not be an election for school board this year, but there will be a new member. Incumbents Dorene Nelson and Lars Hanson turned in their petitions. Incumbent Steve Schaller did not turn one in, but former head janitor, Merle Harder, did turn his petition in for the three-year school board position.
