Lady Tigers drop district game

• The Groton girls basketball team ended its season Monday night with a 47-30 loss to the hands of the Britton-Hecla Braves in the first round district tournament.
• "We had a rough season finish," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "We had three girls out with injuries." They were Courtney Kurtz, Tori Bjerke and Carly Wheeting. Wheeting suffered an injry to her thumb on Friday, according to Wanner. "We're lucky it wasn't more serious or there could have been surgery involved," he said.
• Britton-Hecla held a 5-4 first quarter lead, a 21-13 lead at half time and a 34-22 lead at the end of the third quarter. "Our girls played hard and I'm very proud of them," Wanner said. "There are not too many teams that have no seniors on the team. This group of girls will be fun to watch next year."
• Camille Sippel led the Tigers with 12 points followed by Kylie Hawkins with seven, Halle Dohman and Natalia Dohman each had four points and Regan Lewandowski added three points.
• Groton made six of 41 field goals for 15 percent, made nine of 18 free throws for 50 percent off of the Braves' 12 team fouls. Groton had more rebounds, 30-23, with Sippel having 11 for Groton. Groton had 16 turnovers, nine of which were steals. Britton-Hecla had nine turnovers, all of which were steals with Dohman and Ashley Gibbs each having three.
• Groton ends the season with an 11-9 record.
