Emergency Management official receives award

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The assistant director of the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management has recently been awarded the Service Member Patriot Award from the United States Department of Defense.
• Tina Titze earned the honor for her support as a citizen employer of South Dakota Army National Guard member Jonathan Nesladek, an OEM employee.
• The Patriot Award is given to citizen employers who offer their employee soldiers flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployments, leaves of absence if needed and consideration of needs of family members.
• Titze says she is honored to receive the award on behalf of all of the employees at the Office of Emergency Management.

Wednesday is South Dakota Civil Air Patrol Day

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Dennis Daugaard has declared Wednesday as South Dakota Civil Air Patrol Day.
• Daugaard signed the proclamation establishing the day as a way to recognize the hard work and volunteer hours that the members of the Civil Air Patrol put in during missions for local, state, tribal and federal governments.
• Col. John Seten is the South Dakota wing commander. He and others will be at the Legislature on Wednesday to share their stories with lawmakers.
• He says it's important for the public to understand that the Civil Air Patrol helps stretch the resources of the state and saves it money through the use of well-trained volunteers.
