Groton MathCounts places fourth

•  The Northeastern South Dakota Chapter MathCounts Competition was held in the Student Center on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen on Saturday, February 9, 2013.  Groton team members, Alexis Harder, Gabrielle Kramer, Landon Marzahn, and Keri Pappas earned the fourth place trophy.  Groton students, Jenifer Fjelstad, Marshall Lane, Jackson Oliver, and Madison Sippel, also participated in the event.
•  Other schools receiving awards were:  Brookings (first place), Roncalli (second place), Holgate (third place), Northwestern (fifth place), and Warner (sixth place).  The top two teams and the top two individuals now advance to the state competition in Pierre in March.  The top four individuals at the state competition will represent South Dakota at the national competition later this spring.  MathCounts is a nationwide coaching and competition program for middle school students that promotes excellence in mathematics achievement.
