well. If AR is used as intended - as a stimulus for students to read widely and well, gradually increasing both the difficulty and comprehension of the materials read - it will help to increase reading scores.

• I am looking forward to an interesting semester with my sociology students, as this is the first time I have had the opportunity to teach a sociology class.  It is definitely a change during that class period, in comparison to my full English schedule.  We are starting the semester with the introductory chapter, "What is Sociology?"  We will be studying various topics this semester, some of which include cultural diversity;  the adolescent in society;  social control and deviance;  racial and ethnic relations; gender, age and health; the family; education and religion; and sports and the mass media.
