required in the special assessment process.
• At the public hearing held on January 7, 2013, people from both sides of the issue testified.   Although the resolution was accepted on a 5 to 1 vote by the Council, many of the citizens present did not realize that this project had been discussed and debated for 3 months at other meetings.  That is one reason why we encourage public attendance at all the meetings and welcome the press coverage to try to help explain why and how these decisions are made.
• When Ed Opp and Arlys Kluess turned in their petitions to refer the 2013 Curb & Gutter Resolution of Necessity, a special election was triggered for the whole city.  This is based on state law.  All registered voters of the City have the right to vote on cancelling or proceeding with this project, not just those in the project.    We want to encourage everyone to get out and vote on February 26.
• Tomorrow we will try to give more information on what the project will do and how the assessments work.
