Moon in Aries. Jupiter in Taurus on February 15

• Watch February 15 asteroid flyby online, in real time
• The two brightest celestial bodies in the February evening sky - the moon and Jupiter - show you where to find two zodiacal constellations on this Friday night. Tonight's moon shines in front of the constellation Aries the Ram, and the dazzling planet Jupiter beams

in front of the constellation Taurus the Bull.
• Taurus? Here's your constellation
• A constellation of the Zodiac distinguishes itself from other constellations in that the sun, moon and planets routinely pass within its borders. In fact, sky charts often draw in the ecliptic - the sun's annual path in front of the backdrop stars. Practiced sky watchers know the moon and planets are always found on or near the ecliptic.
• What is the Zodiac
• What is the ecliptic?
• Hence, that's why you'll see the waxing crescent moon in front of Aries, and Jupiter in front of Taurus this evening. But the moon and Jupiter circle the Zodiac in wildly different time periods. Whereas it takes the moon about four weeks to go full circle through the Zodiac, it takes Jupiter nearly twelve years.
• The moon will pass out of Aries and into Taurus in a few days. However, Jupiter will remain in front of Taurus until Jupiter and Taurus leave the evening sky in June 2013.
• So keep an eye on the waxing crescent moon, as it heads for Jupiter and Taurus in the days ahead.
