Four grapplers place at Howard

• Four Groton grapplers placed at the Howard Tournament held Saturday. Dalton Locke placed first, Brook Anderson was second and Jeric Albercht and Trenton Duncan each placed third.
• Canton won the team title with 188.5 points while Groton was sixth with 110 points.
• The Groton Tigers had an eventful weekend. They started off by traveling down to Augustana Friday night to take in some college wrestling before heading off to Howard for their own tournament. I think the boys really liked seeing the level of intensity that the college level has. They enjoyed the dual between Augustana and Upper Iowa very much. Both teams are rated nationally so it was really an exciting dual to watch. After taking in some motivation, the Tigers rolled on into Howard.
• Saturday was a very good day. We didn't have the manpower to finish as high as we could have team wise as we sat some kids to heal up before regions, but I thought that all of the kids wrestled very hard out on the mat.  We again got to see teams that we normally do not see during the season. We got to see some kids that we will see in a couple of weeks up in Aberdeen at the state meet. This plays a huge factor in the contest when you normally don't see them and have no clue what they bring to the mat. It can be an equalizer to some degree.
• We also had some kids that got to take on some of the region kids that they will see this Saturday. We won some big matches in this department that will be key in seeding criteria. A couple of our boys came out really big in this department and set themselves up very good for regions. They may have just made their run at qualify
