1920 to John and Gertrude (Soyland) Murschel at Webster, South Dakota. The family made their home near Butler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in Butler and graduated from Butler High School.
• On June 26, 1948 she was united in marriage to Orval Hjermstad at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in several towns including Roslyn, Watertown, Webster and Puyallup, Washington. In 1967 they returned to Webster where they operated a retail store for a short time. She worked at various jobs over the years including Bethesda Home for 23 years until retirement. Orval passed away in February 1985. After his death she continued to live in Webster where she volunteered at Needs Anonymous. For the past five years she has resided with her son near Groton.
• Edythe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster where she was active in Circle and W.E.L.C.A. She loved watching sports including the Boston Celtics, Chicago Cubs and N.Y. Yankees. She also loved watching and feeding the birds and playing cards with the grandchildren on holidays or whenever they would visit. Her favorite moments were when Shelby and grandma would give each other "static" back and forth to each other.
• Edythe died on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Groton, South Dakota at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 22 days.
• Survivors include two sons, Russel (Emily) Hjermstad of Bellevue, NE and Randy Hjermstad of Groton, SD; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Earl and one sister, Vivian Solberg.
