• Ryan is being released from a federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind., after serving five-plus years for corruption. He's expected to spend the first few weeks at a halfway house in Chicago and then return to his home in Kankakee, about 60 miles to the south.
• Once reacclimated to life on the outside, Ryan will discover an Illinois that has grown less tolerant of the kind of wheeling and dealing that led to the imprisonment of him and his successor, Rod Blagojevich.
• "Public trust really started to falter under Ryan, then it imploded and sunk under Blagojevich," said Cindi Canary, the former head of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
• Historically, Illinois governors haven't been especially adept at getting a message that there are consequences to violating the public trust. Of the state's last seven governors, four have ended up going to prison.

Actor Jim Nabors, Gomer Pyle on 'Andy Griffith Show,' marries partner of 38 years in Seattle

• HONOLULU (AP) -- The actor best known for playing the TV character Gomer Pyle in the 1960s has married his male partner of 38 years.
• Hawaii News Now (http://bit.ly/14tFM3U) reports Jim Nabors and his partner, Stan Cadwallader, traveled from their Honolulu home to Seattle to be married Jan. 15.
• Gay marriage became legal in Washington state last month.
• The 82-year-old Nabors says you've got to solidify something when you've been together as long as they have.
• They couple met in 1975 when Cadwallader was a Honolulu firefighter. Cadwallader is 64.

Alex Rodriguez among players implicated in PED use through Florida clinic under investigation

• NEW YORK (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez is in the middle of Major League Baseball's latest doping investigation after an alternative weekly newspaper reported baseball's highest-paid star was among the big leaguers listed in the records of a Florida clinic the paper said sold performance-enhancing drugs.
