SD man gets 5 years for manslaughter sentence

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Sioux Falls man accused of driving drunk and killing a woman on a motorcycle has been sentenced to five years in prison.
• Forty-one-year-old Darren Boomgarden earlier pleaded guilty to manslaughter and second-offense drunken driving.
• Boomgarden acknowledged drinking alcohol and taking a prescription sleep aid before driving to a fast food restaurant on July 28 and striking a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was injured, while 36-year-old passenger Tracy Handel died.
• Boomgarden faced up to 30 years in prison as part of the plea deal, but local media report that the victim's family asked the judge for leniency, saying they want Boomgarden to learn from his mistake and seek help.
• Boomgarden wept in court as he apologized to the victim's family.

• As Americans debate gun laws, people on both sides point to the experiences of other countries to support their arguments. Here's a look at two success stories -- with two very different ways of thinking about gun ownership -- and one cautionary tale.
