Sunday is last day of McGovern estate sale in SD

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- More fans and supporters of three-time presidential hopeful and former U.S. Sen. George McGovern are expected to turn out Sunday for the last day of his estate sale.
• McGovern died in Sioux Falls in October. He was 90.
• His family is selling his personal items that they decided not to keep during a two-day estate sale. The sale started Saturday at his home in Sioux Falls and continues Sunday.
• Items up for sale include books he read and wrote, personal notes, furniture, art and rugs.
• The estate sale runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at his home, located at 2615 S. Ridgeview Way.

Black Hills event to showcase sheep shearing

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A Sunday event at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo is showcasing the working practice of sheep shearing.
• This year's National Sheep Shearing Competition will feature 250 to 300 sheep from South Dakota.
• Sheep shearing competitor Loren Opstedahl says not all sheep are created equal. He says one might have wrinkly skin and one might be aggressive, but he has to be prepared to shear them all.
• New to the competition will be a wool handling component, along with machine shearing and blade shearing.
• Leann Brimmer says her family has raised sheep for more than 100 years, and her dad used to shear. She got into competitive shearing several years ago.
• The free event at the Crystalyx BioBarrel Sale Ring in Rushmore Hall runs from noon to 4 p.m.
