Boomer Babble - Thoughts at Large
Don't Bogart that Thought My Friend
By John Chicoine

I couldn't help but notice that both Colorado and Washington have passed initiatives to allow for the recreational use of marijuana.  From what I understand, you're allowed to buy pot legally and smoke it wherever.  Well, maybe not church or school but it's legal to smoke.  And of course, the states are all ga ga because of the tax revenue it will bring in which probably will be substantial.  Surely there will be a big push to legalize pot in South Dakota.
• As a boomer, I've been giving this some "out of the box" thought.  First, we've recently been through some smoking battles which ended smoking pretty much everywhere but in a car or a house.  So if we legalize pot, we're back to smoking plus where would a person smoke it other than a house?  Pot lucks would be the new rage.
• If you didn't smoke the pot, how else could it be ingested?  I've read it can be baked in brownies.  But that presents more problems in South Dakota.  The national health gurus say we're all obese here.  So if we're eating brownies with pot plus getting the munchies, we're really going to get fat.  We'll have a state full of overly mellow, pot infused, brownie eating, couch potatoes and that wouldn't be good.
• I see other problems.  Our walleye fishing industry could collapse.  Two guys smoking a little pot in the boat instead of drinking a beer.  "Dude, I think I felt something on my line."  "Dude, you should like jerk the pole or something."  "Dude, I think I should sometime."  "Yeah, you should do that sometime."  "Dude, look, no bait, it must have gotten away."  "Bummer, here have another hit."  See, no one catching fish, too many walleyes, the fish don't grow, new fish problems on the river.
• What about all the coffee groups?  Would we all be sitting around passing a bong instead of a coffee pot?  I have trouble wrapping my brain around a table full of church ladies eating brownies (well I could see brownies but not pot brownies) and taking a pull off a bong.
• But we boomers know the world changes.  Look at technology today.  We need an engineering degree to use out TV remotes.  They haven't legalized pot yet in South Dakota.  But you might get a little proactive and at least learn some of the language, like, "Dude, that is one honking big dubbie."
