• "Celebrating the Past, Anticipating the Future" will feature more than 100 Groton area figure skaters from preschool to high school age. There will also be several specialty acts, including some numbers by past skaters, several of whom were also past Queens of the Carnival of Silver Skates.
• The show promises to be entertaining and inspiring, with beautiful costumes and fun and upbeat music related to the theme. An all-boys group dressed in flannel shirts and blue jeans will skate to "Convoy" using home-made semis. The youngest skaters, called the Snowflakes, will skate to "ABC" from Jackson Five in bright microfleece costumes and flowered headbands. Other songs will include "Pose" by Stephanie Scott and Carlon Jeffrey, "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen, "Bang a Drum" by Selena Gomez, and "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner to name just a few. New spectators to the show each year often marvel at the beautiful, professional-looking costumes, thanks in large part to costume committee chair Pam Barse and Carnival of Silver Skates Chair Chris Hanson.
• Following tradition, 2012 Carnival of Silver Skates Queen Alexa Schuring, daughter of Brian and Andrea Schuring and Terri and Brian Adam, will crown the 2013 queen during the 2:00 PM performance. This year's candidates are juniors Darac Harry, Kylie Hawkins, Nikki Koehler, Madison Profeta, Cheyenne Schaller, Bailee Thompson and seniors Naomi Lyn McKiver and Mikki Kavanaugh.
• To celebrate this year's jubilee, we will be providing fireworks for your entertainment following the evening performance. Lew's Fireworks from Watertown will be assisting with the pyrotechnics.
• Admission for the show is just $3.00 for those 13 and older, $2.00 for those six to 12 and free for children five and under. Plan now to watch "Celebrating the Past, Anticipating the Future" in Groton on January 27th at 2:00 PM or 6:30 PM. Watch from the comfort of your own vehicle, listening to music and narration from your radio. There will be plenty of parking, with only cars allowed on the ice and larger vehicles allowed on upper tiers. Attendees are asked to limit vehicles to one per family, please.
