Groton hoop teams sweep Oakes

• Groton swept Oakes in four games on Saturday in a double header played at the Arena. The girls varsity won their game, 46-29, and the junior varsity won, 32-15. The boys had equal success, winning the varsity game, 69-29, and the junior varsity game, 37-25.
• The Oakes girls controlled the tip, but it was Groton who first scored when Courtney Kurtz hit a three-pointer for the opening shot. That was followed by a three-pointer by Camille Sippel as Groton took a 6-2 lead.
• Oakes was limited to one field goal and two free throws as Groton took a 16-4 first quarter lead.
• In the first quarter, Groton made six of 16 field goals, two of two free throws and had three turnovers. Oakes made one of 13 field goals, two of two free throws and had four turnovers.
• "We played good defense," said Coach Shaun Wanner. "And we can when we match up with our opponent. We struggled against Clark - we couldn't match up with them. They are a physical team and
