• Yvonne Gibbs spent January 10, 11 and 12 in Murdo. While there she attended the 45th Annual Jones County Invitational Basketball Tournament. She was joined by Don and Suzie Ogren of Langford. Jerald Applebee was honored and the Jones County Auditorium was officially named "Jerald Applebee Court.". He was instrumental in the start of the tournament and this was its 45th year. Jerald graduated from Bonesteel High School where he participated in basketball, football and track. He was a member of the first State B team back in 1958. He graduated from Southern State Teachers College on an athletic scholarship. He began his teachimg and coaching career in Murdo. It became Jones County High School when Murdo and Draper combined. Jerald got his masters degree from Black Hills State and became the high school principal during the 1970-1971 school year. He also served as athletic director until his retirement in 1994. Jerald had family members from Rapid City and Bonesteel in attendence as wel to share in this special occasion.
