NE man sentenced for federal wildlife crime in SD

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Nebraska man has been sentenced for committing a federal wildlife crime while employed as a guide for a South Dakota hunting business.
• Thirty-year-old Jeremy Hoefs was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay $525 in fines and fees and $4,700 in restitution to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
• U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Hoefs helped in the unlawful taking of ducks by unlicensed hunters in the fall of 2009 in Marshall County while he was working for Windy Hill Outfitters. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced last Friday.

Peever man charged with murder in stabbing death

• PEEVER, S.D. (AP) -- Authorities have charged a Peever man with first-degree murder in the death of another man.
• Attorney General Marty Jackley and Roberts County States Attorney Kerry Cameron say 23-year-old Patrick Hopkins was arrested Monday night in the stabbing death of Adam LaFramboise. The charge stems from an incident last Friday night at a residence in Peever in northeastern South Dakota.
• The penalty for first-degree murder in South Dakota is either death or life in prison.
• It was not immediately clear if Hopkins had an attorney.
