Sioux Falls crime available by website, smartphone

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Listening to police scanners is so 2012. Nowadays, there's an app for that.
• South Dakota's largest city is joining the ranks of municipalities nationwide that map out crime incidents for people to track by computer or iPhone. Sioux Falls police say the service will let residents see neighborhoods' crime data in close to real time.
• Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says the data is available through CrimeReports.com, which tracks crime incidents in cities throughout the United States and Canada.
• Clemens says this program updates an older one in the city that wasn't as user friendly and didn't allow users to filter the incidents by type -- such as vandalism or assault. The data also is linked to the state's sex-offender registry.

SD agency puts all public notices on 1 website

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources is putting all its public notices on a single page on its website.
• The page includes links to all current public notices for department activities that involve general permits, air quality, ground and surface water discharge, mining, oil and gas, water rights and other programs.
• The webpage allows people to comment online regarding some public notices. People also can subscribe to be notified weekly by email when public notices are added.
