1986: Snowfall of 1 to 3 inches along with winds gusting to around 40 mph produced ground blizzard conditions in western South Dakota. Visibility was near zero in many locations with blowing and drifting snow blocking some roads. Some roads were closed in western South Dakota. Several accidents occurred with many cars ended up in the ditch.

2005: Heavy snow of up to 10 inches fell across much of Lyman and Jones counties from the 4th until mid-morning of the 5th.

1780: A major snowstorm pounded Morristown, NJ keeping General Washington and his troops stuck at their headquarters.

1917: At 11am an F3 tornado destroyed a Choctaw Indian Baptist Mission school at Vireton, OK, in the eastern part of the state. Fifteen school children, ranging in age from 6 to 18, were killed.
