• The younger Henderson was one of eight children the justice had with his wife, Norma.
• Frank Henderson fought in the Korean War, an experience that left him suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder for decades. He served from 1951 to 1953 and earned the United Nations Medal, the Korean Service Medal and a Bronze Star, the newspaper reported.
• "He was an officer, and as a good officer, you should take your men out and bring them back and they didn't get back," Norma Henderson said. "He witnessed atrocities, riots, and he spent his life struggling with it."
• After returning from war, he began his career as a lawyer, practicing in Pennington County from 1953 to 1974. He was elected to the state Senate for two terms in the 1960s and ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1970.
• Henderson's judicial career began when he was elected circuit judge in 1974. Four years later, he became a South Dakota Supreme Court justice, a post he held for 15 years.
• Solum, the former state representative, also served in the military. He was drafted into the Army at the end of World War II, and later activated during the Korean War as a member of the South Dakota National Guard.
• He served nine years in the state House, representing his native Watertown. While a lawmaker, Solum co-sponsored several bills, including one that created the people's trust fund in the state treasury. He and his wife Phyllis have five sons, including state Rep. Roger Solum, also of Watertown.
• A funeral mass for Solum is scheduled for Jan. 3 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m.
• Services for Henderson are as follows: Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. New Year's Day at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City, followed by a Christian wake service and rosary at 5 p.m.
• A burial mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. He's to be buried at the Hill City Cemetery with military rites.
