State Treatment and Rehabilitation Academy near Custer obtained the highest status level during the October data collection period for the Performance-based Standards project. South Dakota in April 2011 became the first state to have all its reporting programs reach that status.
• State Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk (KAY'-mink) says the programs use the best treatment possible for juveniles placed in the programs by judges.
• The Performance-based Standards project collects data twice a year to measure safety, security, order, medical and mental health services and other programming.
