Basketball teams split with Leola-Frederick

• The boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Frederick last night where the girls came home with a 48-9 win and the boys dropped a close one to the Titans, 61-56.
• The girls led at the quarterstops at 18-1, 31-3 and 41-5.
• Courtney Kurtz led the Tigers with 13 points followed by Tori Bjerke with 12, Camille Sippel and Kylie Hawkins each had five, Halle Dohman and Carly Wheeting each had four and Ewgan Lewandowski and Erica Schuster each had two points.
• Freshman MacKenzie Heilman scored all nine of the Titans' points.
• Groton led the rebounds, 34-26, and had fewer turnovers, 21-12.
• Groton won the junior varsity game, 19-7.
• Groton's boys trailed after the first quarter, 12-10, led at half time, 33-26, and trailed at the end of the third quarter, 42-41.
• The Ell brothers combined for 33 points as Reilly had 22 and Kyler 11, Lucas Sternhagen had nine points, Mason Madsen seven, Parker Rossow five and Kasey Kurtz added two.
• Brian Sumption led the Titans with 27 points followed by Matt Weisser with 14, Derrick Podoll had 10, Wyatt Heine four and Evan Emery and Tyler Hoffman each had three points.
• Groton had more rebounds, 21-18, and more turnovers, 9-4.
• The Titans won the junior varsity game, 31-29.
