SD officials warn of hazardous travel due to snow

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Officials say heavy snow and high winds may create difficult travel conditions across South Dakota through Sunday afternoon.
• The South Dakota Department of Transportation said in a news release that strong winds may cause reduced visibility and snow drifts on roads in north central and northeastern South Dakota. Those regions were under blizzard warnings Sunday morning.
• The department urged motorists to be cautious when driving and to call 511 to check the latest road conditions.
• Greg Fuller, the agency's director of operations, said road conditions "can change rapidly." The release said SDDOT crews would resume plowing Sunday morning, weather permitting.
• The National Weather Service said that as of Sunday morning, Aberdeen had received 8.3 inches of snow and Sisseton in far northeastern South Dakota had 5.5 inches.

Aberdeen college building dorm, wellness center

• ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- Crews have started construction on Presentation College's new student residence hall and wellness center as part of a $10.5 million campus upgrade.
• The Aberdeen American News reports (http://bit.ly/TK42tt) that the new East Suites residence hall will be able to house 150 students
• Officials say the first wing will be completed by the beginning of the fall semester and the second will be completed soon after. An extra parking lot will be added to accommodate students who will live in the new residence hall.
• The athletic training and wellness center will be added to the Strode Center. It's expected to be completed by the beginning of the fall semester.

Former ND gov. to give speech at SD oil conference

• RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Former North Dakota Gov. Ed Schafer will be the keynote speaker at a one-day conference in Rapid City this week about the Bakken oil boom and opportunities for western South Dakota businesses.
