Groton Area opens season with big win over Ipswich 

Solid shooting led to a Tiger victory as Groton opened their season Thursday against Ipswich. The Groton Tigers controlled the game, leading at the end of each quarter to win, 65 - 43.
• Groton got the tip to start the game and was able to convert the advantage into two points, when Reilly Ell sank the first basket with only 20 seconds off the clock. Ell had two more key shots in the first quarter to help the Tigers maintain the lead. Both were 3-point shots. The first quarter ended with Groton up by four points, 14-10.
• The Tigers opened a large gap in the scoring during the second period. Lucas Sternhagen hit three 3-pointers during the period. Mason Madsen and Kyler Ell each added an additional 3-pointer. This put the Tigers up by 20 points with three minutes left in the half. Ipswich had a short rally, scoring nine unanswered points, but it was not enough to steal the led. Groton led at the half, 38 - 23.
• A strong Groton defense held Ipswich to only seven points in the third quarter. The Tigers advanced their led by 10 points during the quarter with Reilly Ell scoring eight of those points.

The third quarter ended, 48-30.
• Fouls plagued both teams during the game, sending players to the charity strip. Midway through the fourth quarter Wyatt Lone received his fifth foul and had to leave the game. Ipswich made six trips to the line, scoring only six points. Groton
