sun along our line of sight. The moon's absence for a day or two will ensure dark nights for the Geminid meteor shower, which will peak the night of December 13 until dawn December 14. What impeccable timing!
• Bottom line: The waning crescent moon is about to pass a line of planets and stars in the east before dawn. Saturday morning, the moon is poised above the star Spica. The moon passes Spica on Sunday, Saturn on Monday, Venus on Tuesday and Mercury on Wednesday - December 9-12. Worth getting up early to see!
