problems could hurt South Dakota, either because programs end or the state has to spend more to offset lost federal funding. Federal spending eventually must be cut to deal with a growing deficit, which exceeded $1 trillion in the last federal fiscal year, he said.
• "I don't want you to think I'm crazy when I say we've got to worry about this in the future. We do. We really have to worry about this," the governor said.

Reaction to governor's budget follows party lines

• PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Reaction To South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard's proposed $4.1 billion state budget is following party lines.
• The Republican governor proposed modest increases to account for inflation in state aid to schools, funding for universities and reimbursements to hospitals and other facilities that provide medical services to poor people.
• House Democratic Leader Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says the governor's speech to lawmakers failed to address the need to fund schools adequately. He says he hopes Republican and Democratic lawmakers can join forces to find more money for school districts.
• Senate Republican Leader Russell Olson of Wentworth says he's pleased the governor has left some money uncommitted. He says he doesn't know how the Legislature might decide to spend that money, but he believes some will be invested in education.

10 bands to be inducted in South Dakota rock hall

• SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Ten bands and four individuals with ties to the South Dakota area will be inducted into the South Dakota Rock & Roll Music Association's Hall of Fame next year.
• The April 13 induction ceremony will be headlined by The Trashmen, a Twin Cities band that hit it big with the 1963 hit "Surfin' Bird."
• Also performing will be The Hursmen and Ma's Boys from Sioux Falls, Nickel Bag of Soul from Flandreau, Outer Limits from Madison, Burch Ray & The Walkers from Spearfish, Lads of Sherwood from Sisseton, The Roselles Brothers from Lead, and the 7 Sons and The Velaires from Iowa.
• Iowa promoter Dick Matousek, DJ Ray Durkee from Aberdeen, Dennis Brown (DJ Jim Rose) from Aberdeen and the late Lloyd Nerland from Huron are also being honored.
